A Monday Birthday Dog Day Short & Sweet

Good Morning Everyone!

Guess what day it is?

If you said International Skeptics Day, you’re right, but that’s not what I’m thinking of 🙂

Today is my Brown Dog’s birthday!  She is 7.  That means that she and I will be the same age this year.  (I’ll let you figure the math :))

I think she would enjoy a rousing chorus of

Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear Stinky (yeah… she rolled in something awful yesterday and in spite of the bath is still a little odoriferous… which makes her very happy… have you noticed a theme here? :))
Happy Birthday to you!!!

And of course I will be making her a cake, so stop by later for a slice 🙂

Speaking of cake, which is sweet, reminds me that we haven’t done a Short & Sweet for a while, and what better time for inspiration than now?

In between navigating my basement by canoe and bailing (oh how do I love thee, unnatural January rain?  Let me count the ways… uh, okay, maybe not :)) I persuaded my old computer to part with this picture of Baby Brown Dog.

In honor of her birthday, let’s think up stories for her to star in :))

You can think up a title, or an opening line, or a one sentence pitch or, if you’re really ambitious, all three!

I’ll go first.

Title: One, Two, Three!  Play With Me!
Opening Line:  One, two, three!  Play with me!  How many puppies do you see?
Pitch: A little brown dog wants to play, eat, play, walk, play, roll, and play some more, counting everything as she goes.

Now it’s your turn 🙂  Miss Brown says thank you in advance – she knows she will love your ideas to turn her into a literary star! 🙂

Have a marvelous Monday everyone!  And don’t forget to stop by later for a slice of birthday cake (or two :))

    Title: Happy Hound-day
Opening Line: “Open the door! Open the door! I want to chase the bunny.
Pitch: On her birthday, it's a dog's eye view of what makes for a perfect day-with belly rubs, sunny naps, and lots of mud and stink!

Give Brown dog an extra scratch in her favorite spot from me!

    Happy Birthday to Stinky
Let me give this a try. I haven't done this in a while
    Title: Can You Guess Who?
Opening line: Can you guess who stepped in the poo
Brown dog smiles and so do you
Pitch: Brown Dog loves to roll in everything she can find around the house, the backyard and the park. But she loves to sneak up to see if you can guess the scent and of course, guess who it's coming from.

Aw! You're so sweet Wendy! Brownie says thank you for the belly rub… which she demands should continue indefinitely so I am typing with one hand… which is not efficient 🙂 I love the idea of a dog's perspective on birthdays 🙂

Title: Miss Brown and Susanna's Long Walk
Pitch: Susanna gets into some deep trouble on her walk with her pet dog, Miss Brown. And be aware: Miss Brown is the one holding the leash!
Opening lines: Settle down, Susanna! You're all tangled up in the leash.

    Title:Stinky Dinky Doo
Pitch: Stinky Dinky rolled in horse muck and is now afraid to go home. What's a doggie to do?
Opening Line: Stinky Dinky rolled in the horse doo doo, grinning like only she could.

    🙂 I'm a year older too. *sob*

Happy birthday Scout! (and the other one is Jenna, right?) 🙂 Happy birthday Ms. Johnson! Happy Rubber Duckie Day (really!)!
    Hmm…
Title: The white sheep, the brown dog, and the groundhog AKA Scout gets her own story (with help from friends)
Pitch: Featuring Wooliam and Punxsutawney Phyllis, from author Susanna Leornard Hill's picture books, help the author's dog get into her own coveted story, written by Scout the dog, Wooliam, Phyllis, and the author herself!
You may use this as a How-To-Write-A-Good-PB PB, or for just plain fun. 🙂

Phyllis says, “WA-HOO! At last! Another book about ME!”
Woolliam says, “Phyllis, would you keep it down? I'm exhausted. I'm trying to (yawn) catch some zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz……..”
Scout says, “I'm going to be in a book! Woof! Can you eat books? Can I have another piece of cake?”
Ms. Hill says, “Hmm… It's Rubber Duckie Day, and Phyllis is busy preparing for Groundhog Day and Woolliam is asleep. Who will make sure that Rubber Duckie Day is properly celebrated? Why, Scout of course!… Great idea for a story, thank you Erik :)”

What an adorable puppy! Thanks for sharing the photo and providing the Short and Sweet writing prompt, Susanna.:) And I used the advice from Emma Walton Hamilton's 12×12 author post in order to write the pitch/central story question…I'm so excited about the template she gave…I know it will really help me to focus for my story writing this year.

    Title: Little Brown's Boring Day

Pitch: Little Brown want to play with Big Brown but he can't because Big Brown is too busy so he finds ways to occupy himself and ultimately realizes that playing by himself can be fun.

Opening lines: Little Brown wants to play. “Play with me!” he asked. “I'm busy now,” said Big Brown. “Find something to do.” “There's nothing to do! Being in the house is boring!” Little Brown told Big Brown.

Oh my gosh, that brings back memories of my dog who ALWAYS had to roll in something stinky, especially right after I gave her a bath. 😛 I love the name Scout! To Kill a Mockingbird related?

My brain is really fried today…long day out, too much to do, so I will be a party-pooper (no pun intended; I see you guys have already gone down that path!) and not play.

But I do want to wish Scout a very Happy Birthday! Like Joanna, I am also a year older than Scout. 🙂

Wooliam can work night-shift if he wants. 🙂 And Scout, well, she can celebrate Dress Up Your Pet Day, today! 🙂 And all of us can celebrate Organize your Home Day, today, and Dad and I can celebrate Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day, today, and Mom can do Poetry at Work Day, and and we'll have LOTS of fun!
    😀
