Dog Days

Happy August Everyone!

I hope you’re all on the beach with a great book, a cold lemonade, and people you love, having a wonderfully summery time!

We are Dog Day-ing it like the pros we are here on Blueberry Hill…

I mean, can we lie down and sleep, or what?!

It is extremely important not to overtax yourself in the heat 🙂

Traditionally, I take August off from blogging, but this year everything is so topsy-turvy that there’s no point in trying to pretend any kind of organization.

So I will mostly take August off from blogging… except for starting my new series on August 14th (because that’s the day it has to start)… and maybe having a little bit of a party on the 28th because some MONKEYS I know are having a book birthday… which gives us an excuse for cake 🙂

The new series, entitled Tuesday Debuts, will feature debut authors sharing the intimate details of how they sold their first picture book.  It is intended to be educational and inspiring for all picture book writers, but especially for those who have yet to make that first sale.  Who knows what nuggets of insight and wisdom and insider tips you might glean???!!!  I hope you will all read it while you’re on that beach we were just discussing and find out! 🙂

Please tune in on Tuesday August 14 for our debut debut author, Chris Mihaly!

Meantime, read something good, write something great, and don’t forget your sunscreen 🙂 🙂 🙂

What a fun idea for a new series! I always love hearing about how writers sell their first book. Looking forward to reading everyone’s success stories and hearing more about those monkeys. 🙂

Happy Dog Days indeed! When my Two Orange Pups aren’t curled up somewhere comfy, they head to the water – either rainy walks on the riverfront or an Adirondack Lake.

Look forward to reading your debut Debut series soon!

Scouty never gets out of the water if there’s any around to lie/wade/swim in, but Jemmie doesn’t like it at all! After 10 years she’s finally reached the point where she’ll deign to get her toes wet, but THAT’S IT! 🙂 Glad you’re looking forward to the series! I am too! 🙂

I am dying in Los Angeles. It is much warmer than Alaska! Waiting to attend the SCBWI LA Conference….waiting in my room where I have the temperature turned down to just a few degrees above the refrigerator. LOL

I love the idea of people sharing their success stories. I think it is important to hear the positive amongst all the negative, the different roads to getting published, as well as the heartache and frustration those roads often have.

Thank you, Susanna! And thank you, Cathy, for “debut squared.” I like it. I’m really looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned, on this blog in a couple of weeks, and celebrating all the help I received from so many along the way. (Waves at Susanna!!)

How did I miss this post, Susanna? I love this idea and I think it will definitely be helpful to those who are on the path. getting questions answered is so important…and knowledge is power!

I’m glad you like it, Vivian! Feel free to join in – whichever of your PBs ends up coming out first can be a Tuesday Debut! And yes, I think knowledge is power…plus we all like a good story 🙂

I need to do some summery things before summer is over. I went to the beach once- for 10 minutes, as it was almost a hundred and there was oddly NO breeze. I was visiting my mom in Cape May, so it was a short drive to the beach at least. I need to go again soon!

Can’t believe August is whipping by! Hope you are enjoying yourself this summer.
